Today we didn't have any tours or anything booked so we set out by ourselves. First we went to Sant Ignazio church. When it was built there wasn't enough money to build a dome so they painted it on inside as an optical illusion - very cool! Then we went to the pantheon. Such an incredible building. Nearly 2000 years old and yet we are still able to visit it - amazing! Some Italian girls interviewed me for their school project outside the pantheon, another one of those funny random moments you have on holidays!
Next we walked to piazza navona, where chariot races were held once upon a time. It was a bit windy but beautiful and sunny today, the weather really brought out the colour of the buildings - beautiful! We looked at a couple more churches and a square and then looked at the French embassy (a nice baroque building) and a market.
Next we went to a pizza bar that was very busy yesterday so we figured it must be good. We were right! 1,30 euros for a slice and it was beautiful with fresh ingredients - just what we felt like!! Then we went to crypta balbi to see some more ruins. It was here that what we call Museum Fatigue Syndrome hit us! This is a term we have coined for when we are in a museum and start reading things but not taking them in at all and feeling tired haha. We were so tired!
Once we finished there we looked at Trajan's Market (more ruins) and were done for the day. The sunshine was so nice though that we walked to the colosseum, then did some shopping along Via Del Corso (I think I have a problem, I'm now up to 2 dresses, 2 cardigans, 2 tops, 1 pair of boots, 1 jacket, 1 skirt, 1 pair of tights! Keep in mind I'm too stingy at home to buy clothes though but I let myself here haha). Then we walked to the Trevi fountain and had our 4th and final gelati at the best place in Rome called San Crispino, then sat and people watched at the Trevi fountain for about an hour. It was lovely just sitting there enjoying Bernini's beautiful fountain!
Now we're back at the room and may be heading out to another museum that our crypta balbi ticket includes (unless museum fatigue syndrome hits again hahaha!!).
It's our last night in Rome tonight and at 5.25pm Melbourne time we will be on a train to Florence! Apparently our hotel has no Internet but may possibly. So if I'm off the air for 5 days you know why, otherwise I'll try to get to an Internet cafe at some point because I like letting you know what I'm up to.
