Drove to Athens

Hey everyone!

Today we left Olympia at 8.30 and then headed for Athens. We stopped and ate some yummy yoghurt we bought at a cute hilltop village called Lagkadia. Once we passed this village it became very snowy on the roads, it was quite cold this morning and had snowed overnight. The roads were very slippery so we drove very very slow!!

On the way to Athens we also stopped at the Corinthe Canal. After searching for the viewing platform for a while we found it. It was so spectacular! A huge drop down.

We arrived at Athens airport and dropped off our car. Then we caught the train into Athens. Our hotel is really nice! Spacious and clean room and a modern reception and lounge area.

We had a look around the local area (Plaka) before it got dark. Had some yummy yoghurt and some Greek donuts.

Went out for dinner tonight which was yum but we ate very full now!!!!

I have heard many bad things from people about Athens especially in the current economic climate, but thus far we are feeling more comfortable and safe here than in turkey! I hope that feeling continues. We had a bit of a stalker in Istanbul (long story short he helped us from the airport and then found out where we stayed and turn up a few days later trying to see us, got a bit scary), but everyone here isn't pushy at all and loves Australians (and keeps telling me I probably know their cousins hahaha!!!)

Thinking of everyone at home in the bushfire areas. Hard to believe last time I was here there were severe floods in Queensland and now there are terrible fires in Tassie. We keep seeing it on the news and I hope it clears up soon.

Love to all,
Claire
