Explored Olympia

Hi all!

Today we set off in the sunshine and explored the archaeological site of ancient Olympia. We explored the site including the temple of Zeus (or where it once stood), the gymnasium, the temple of Hera (where the flame is lit every 4 years), the stadium and more. I loved where the statues used to stand on the way to the stadium to show who were cheaters. If athletes were caught cheating in ancient times their statue was erected telling everyone they were a cheater and publicly shaming them! We should put a Lance Armstrong one there haha.

It was really eerie and cool to walk around where so much history happened!! I'm such s dag that I even lined up and ran the 200m race track just to say I ran where Achilles and Hercules etc ran! Once again barely anyone around which was great!

Next we had a look at the archaeological museum which had ruins that were excavated from the site and some history about the site. Had lunch in the cafe there.

Then we walked up into the hills and took in the gorgeous view. Then drove to the town on Katakolo where the cruise ships come in and had an ice cream and a look around!

Tonight the Greek lady running the hotel (of which we are now the only guests!!!) is organizing dinner for us. Can't wait!!

Love to all
Claire
