Friday night was great. Had dinner with Trevor and Janet at a place called 'The Slug and Lettuce' right near the Eye. It was so great to see them again! They sound as if they've had a wonderful 6 or so weeks travelling Ireland and the UK. Really enjoyed catching up and seeing some familiar faces.
Yesterday morning I got up, got ready and got the train to Clapham Junction. Here I met Alisha from school and we headed off to the races! We got the train to Tattenham Corner and went to Epsom Derby Day. Met Sam, Brendan and their friend Jess on the train and away we went!!
We spent about an hour looking for where we had to go, but once we found the area we needed to be in we had a great day. We were in an area with Jamie's football club (the Wimbledon Hawks) and had a great day full of sunshine, unlimited cider/champagne/wine and even saw a couple of horses! The queen went past but I saw the car and not her!!!
Had a really fab day apart from not seeing too many actual races, and I got sunburnt (oops - I put sunscreen on!). The dress Kelly leant me was lovely and met a few of Jamie's friends which was nice.
Afterwards Alisha and I got the train back to Clapham Junction and went to the pub with the group. Got some dinner on the way home.
Today I woke up with a bit of a headache!! But generally felt ok. Had a lie in, then did some washing, got some groceries and enjoyed the sunshine. The weather is fantastic today!!
This afternoon I met Jamie at Old Street station and took him on a surprise outing! We walked 20-30 minutes to 20 Fenchurch Street (aka the Walkie Talkie building!) and went up to the Sky Garden observation deck. I had read about it on the Aussies in London Facebook page and it's free! We were so lucky with the weather - not a cloud in the sky! We had a wonderful view over London. Could see the Tower of London, tower bridge, the Shard, london bridge, St Paul's and more! The garden was quite nice too. There was an outdoor area and the weather was so nice today I even wore shorts!!
Walked along the Thames a bit this afternoon then had an ice cream by the Tower of London. Then we had dinner nearby before I walked Jamie back to Bank station and then walked home. I love the location of where I live! Walked half an hour home in the sun still. Hope this beautiful weather keeps up! Saw Pudding Lane (where the Great Fire of London began) and the monument to the great fire of London on the way back! Must tell the kids at school next week. Have been doing so much about the fire in their topic lessons!
What a fantastic weekend I've had. Looking forward to lots more!!
Love to all
Claire
