So this morning I woke up not feeling the greatest. I pretty much had no voice and I felt exhausted, so I decided to give myself my own Queen's Birthday public holiday. Why should Melbournians be the only ones having a three day weekend this week hey??! At home I have a really bad habit of working myself so hard into the ground that I eventually get ridiculously run down and inevitably get sick. So I thought by having today off to chill a bit it would be better for me in the long run.
So I watched the pies play Melbourne. Got up at 6am and drifted in and out of consciousness. Think I saw about 3/4 of the game, never mind. Was so proud of Travis Cloke kicking seven straight goals - awesome!! A great result and so pleasing to hear they raised $2.2 million for Neale Daniher and his MND fundraiser - good job Melbs!
I had justified today off by telling myself I needed to relax a bit but also make sure I got some errands done that I've been meaning to do for a while. Had a bit more of a sleep after the footy and then got ready for a walk. Ashlee then asked if I wanted to do lunch so we organised a picnic! I packed some lunch and set off.
I walked for nearly an hour and a half at a very leisurely pace (yes that's my idea of relaxing, I've never been very good at it!) along Regent's Canal. It was so nice in the sun. Can tick a long walk along the canal off my London list now too :)
Had some good news along the way! I don't have any work booked in this week but after this I've two more weeks at Hotham. I got a call along the way to meet Ashlee and I'm now booked in for the two weeks after that to teach science at a high school in the northeast! Figured I would try something new. See how we go! It means I've now got work for the remainder of the term except this week. Yay!
Walked past King's Cross station and through Camden and eventually ended up at Primrose Hill where I met Ash. For those who've been reading a while, you may remember that I met my friend Rhi here in the fortnight I was in London in March. At that point it was so cold my hands and ankles hurt! Today it was sunny to start with but then clouded over. A bit cold but alright!!
We enjoyed our picnic of sandwiches, dips and biccies, fruit and yoghurt. Had a good catch up with a nice view over London from the hill! I'm finally starting to get used to the layout of the city and which way everything is.
Then I headed back to mine to get a few things done this afternoon. To my pleasant surprise the cleaning lady has been and mopped all the floors, cleaned all the benches and washed the pile of dishes someone had left festering for three days. Yay!! Just chilling out the rest of the day taking it easy. Will call up the agency tmro morning and see where I end up for work!
Love to all
Claire
