Bogan Bingo

Hello all!

Last night was SO much fun!! I got home from school, bolted down some dinner and got changed. Due to going to Bogan Bingo I dressed in the best bogan Aussie outfit I could organise with my very limited wardrobe and bank account! I wore my pies jumper, my K-Mart leggings and my flip flops (that word is becoming so normal to use, weird - thongs in Australian). I got so many weird looks on the train and one man even asked me about what I was wearing, no one ever talks on the tube!!

It took an hour to get to The Slug in Fulham but once I did I met Alisha and Jess from school and then Ashlee and we had such a funny night laughing at how bogan us Aussies can be at times!!

So what is Bogan Bingo? Basically it's bingo with alcohol and with two hosts who dressed as complete bogans - flannies, cut off denim shorts, mullet wigs, daggy sunnies and a wifebeater singlet. Alisha and I were the only people dressed up which we thought a bit weird!! But I didn't feel silly, in fact there were a group of guys who would shout 'CLOKEY!!!' every time I walked past due to having #32 on my back haha.

The night was so politically incorrect that I can't even describe haha! I felt really at home. To be honest it felt like being at high school at home, some of the things they were saying I hadn't heard since immature boys said them at home when I was a student!! It's strange the things you miss when away. At home people abuse each other out of affection, and over here people don't do that. It was nice to hear that and genuinely laugh about it. Had a great night!

Didn't win anything unfortunately (some prizes were crap ones like bubble wrap and a dustpan, others were awesome like a bar tab and a trip to Egypt!), but did have lots of fun and a tad too much alcohol.

As the bingo came to an end I was going to leave right away for my hour long trek home. But no, they decided to keep playing awesome music from the 80s and now so it was very hard to leave!! Ended up leaving a bit after 11. Got the train then walked home, weird how I would never walk alone in the dark at home but here I feel safe. Made myself a pizza because that's what I felt like (oops!) and ended up going to sleep about 1am. So you can imagine I wasn't too impressed when my alarm went off at 6...

But I've actually had a really fab day! Haven't felt too tired at school but I'll probably crash hard later. Smashed out the whole day in year 2 and the kids worked really well. The day started off great when I picked up the kids in the yard in the morning. I'm always nervous a bit around the parents so it was fantastic when I walked over and said "morning puffin!" to have the kids ask "are you teaching us today?" and when I replied yes I got a "YAAAAY!" cheer and some hugs haha. This afternoon they had 'Golden time' which is basically like free time but I decided to make them a fun activity. So we tracked Brendon's flight and I talked to them about how far away Australia is and how my friend is on the way. Then I led that into a chat about what Erika and I did last weekend and showed them some photos. Then we did the activity I had made, which was giving them a picture of a Trafalgar Square lion and they had to draw themselves on it! They absolutely loved it and one girl handed me hers and said "miss, I drew you on the lion with me, you can keep it!" Aw! That's going on my wall and straight in my teacher box of cards and things at home!!

We had an assembly outside in the sunshine last thing because it was Phoebe's last day. She's one of the brilliant teaching assistants and is going off to do her teacher training! The kids were so cute giving her hugs and being lovely.

Tonight Jamie is coming over for a bit and then once I get a message from Brendon saying he's on his way from Gatwick airport I'm heading to Victoria station to meet him!! So exciting thinking I get to see one of my very best friends tonight after nearly six months apart. I've a great weekend of sightseeing planned for us!!!

Love to all
Claire
