Niceness and rudeness

Hello all!

What a great day in year 4, until some rude Londoners partly ruined it on the train...

I was in foxes all day again today. I did some reading with a few kids then we went to assembly. It was Alisha's class assembly so her year 2s were talking about what they've been doing in class. I felt a little like a celebrity when I walked in the room, a few of them were like "MISS G!!! HI!!!" haha. So lovely, they did a great job and I made sure to tell them so all day.

In foxes we started the day with spelling and then some literacy. I worked one on one with a boy with dyslexia and helped him write the start of his version of Rumpelstiltskin - he did really well!!

Next up after break was maths. We played a game with three dice where they had to add the two numbers on the two dice that were the same colour together, then subtract the number on the third dice they rolled which was a different colour. Then we had to investigate what patterns we found.

In the afternoon we did art, they continued painting something they had been given at the start of the week. It was inspired by their research on Louis Armstrong (one of the kids asked if he was the man who walked on the moon first - hahaha). They worked wonderfully and then I cleaned up (only one child with paint on them - success!) whilst the class enjoyed a party. Mum and dad do you remember the day I met you at Waterloo and I had paint on me? That was the last time I painted with this class!!! During this session I had to go borrow a drying rack off Alisha. I went into Kingfishers and literally had children hug me and not want to let me go. Alisha had to send two of them to hold doors for me because they didn't want me to leave - so lovely!!!! Aw. And on our way upstairs a year 6 asked if I needed help as the rack looked heavy.

The party after art went well. Amy had made them a pass the parcel with a task they had to do in each layer. They LOVED it! Then she had lots of fruit for them to eat and we listened to music.

Such a lovely class, I really enjoy working with them. Whilst waiting for one girl's mum a girl from the other year 4 asked when I go home. I said a month today (yes, less than a month now, absolutely insane right!!?) and three came running over hugging me saying "DON'T LEAVE!" They asked why I have to and I said I've booked a flight and my family miss me. Their solution? "Cancel it, move them here and marry someone English!" "But I need to get a job in Australia!" "Get one here!" Haha. Aw, so lovely to know I'll be missed. Hadn't thought about the fact I've only three weeks left at the school now. Feeling a bit sad about it, the kids are very welcoming and lovely!!

Last night I put an advertisement up on spareroom for my room. I go home in a month so thought I should start looking into if I can get someone organised to replace me at the flat. Within five minutes of posting I had a message. I've had 17 so far and I've organised seven people to come and view my room next Wednesday! Keep your fingers crossed everyone.

Something else happened last night also. You're all going to think I'm a nutcase! At 11.30pm I got a message from my friend James. "Are you awake?" "Yes, why?" Then he goes and tells me two tickets have come up on the rugby World Cup website for the semi final Australia will be in if we beat Scotland this weekend. And they're really cheap for that game! If we play in that game and win (chances are it'll be us vs Ireland) we will be in the final! So of course I said no because I should be financially responsible and all that. JUST KIDDING! Of course I said yes. I used to be hesitant spending my money on things, but over here you really do only live once. Never again will I be back here and have the opportunity to randomly go "yeah, why not, let's go to 'Mamma Mia'/'Graham Norton'/the rugby/insert name of other cool event". Life won't be like this for much longer so I've got to make the most of it!!

Tonight on the train I experienced Londoner rudeness at its worst. Firstly getting on the national rail there was a lady in a wheelchair and her carer. The train was extremely full and a man tried to board. The carer asked really politely if he would mind waiting 1 minute for the next train as there wasn't room and it would stress the lady in the wheelchair out. He ignored her, pushed past, knocked the lady and refused to get off. THEN!!! Yes, it get worse! The two ladies got off the train in Clapham and the train attendant brought over a ramp. He took forever and four of us had to call out as the gap was far too huge to cross without the ramp (you really do need to mind the gap on this line!!). After letting that lady off a lady with a pram was about to exit. He told her as the train was already seven minutes late he couldn't help her. He removed the ramp and so instead four of us had to help her which took much longer than it would've had he left the ramp. I got back on the train and was so angry I couldn't help myself. I may or may not have ranted "people here are an absolute disgrace, never have I experienced such impatience or rudeness. Absolutely unbelievable!" A man next to me started chatting to me agreeing with me but saying it's the same in every big city. I told him no way would that happen in Australia. People can be rude, but we aren't horrible and inconsiderate (OK a small minority are, but it's far worse here). The silver lining was we chatted the rest of the way. He had friends in Aus and was really nice. I really will talk to anyone!

Tonight I'm packing, applying for jobs and getting lots done. Jamie over soon.

Tmro I'm off to Liverpool for the weekend, can't wait! Already got the Beatles stuck in my head haha.

See you in Beatles territory!
Love to all
Claire
