Grand Final Day

Hi all!

So firstly, another year, another boring hawthorn grand final win except for a five minute period in the 3rd quarter :(

Jamie came and stayed over last night and we had an early night. We woke at 3.30am and caught an uber to The Elk Bar in Fulham, a half hour drive away in no traffic. On the way we passed the Eye and the Houses of Parliament, which I called Buckingham Palace due to being so tired - oh dear! All were lit up.

We arrived and met Alisha, Shannon and Stephen. The TV came on partway through Ellie Goulding and the "day" began. We got ourselves a small booth and watched. I had my first and only drink at 4.45am which was odd, and enjoyed my breakfast bap (a bacon and sauce roll).

For the next 2.5 hours we watched Hawthorn demolish a West Coast team who looked like they too had woken at 3.30am. Legitimately didn't even notice Josh Kennedy until the last quarter! How boring. I despise Hawthorn and I sincerely hope they don't equal our four in a row record next year. The Grand Final will be on my birthday next year due to the leap year - so I bloody hope they don't.

In terms of homesickness, I thought I did fairly well today. I'll admit I got a bit teary during the national anthem because it's a day that's so familiar to me. Since 2000 I've attended every GF but 2001 and 2004, until today. Was strange knowing most of my family were there and it was such a lovely day, but I'll be back next year. Bet it rains then!!!

London was cold and foggy, and Jamie and I watched the presentation and then got the train to his. We went to Maccas but missed breakfast by 5 minutes :( But it was ok. Went to his and had a three hour nap, then I watched some TV while he went to the gym.

Now we are in Putney (where my school is - lots of travel today!!) to watch the wallabies play England at Twickenham. It's a huge crunch match. If England lose, they don't progress to the quarter finals and us and Wales definitely do. If we lose, we need to beat Wales next week to progress. Gonna be awkward with Jamie either way but what you gonna do!!! I've got my Aussie flag tattoo on my face that mum sent in my birthday card, and my Aussie flag that I'm going to wear as a cape. Having some pub food and gonna be a great night!

Had an interesting experience in the Oyster card machine queue - pa you will be proud. I thought a guy had pushed in but I wasn't 100% sure. Anyway he gets to the front and stands at one of the machines not doing anything. Jamie asked if it was broken and he was rude back. He replied saying no he was waiting for someone. So I just asked if it were ok if I use the machine while he waited and he told me to chill out. Oh no you didn't!!!! So I said "well maybe you shouldn't push in in the first place". Then the C word came out so I just responded with over the top politeness saying what a winner at life he must be and proceeded to say enjoy losing to Australia tonight :) Seriously though - how sad a person are you that the minute someone questions you your go to defence is to bring out the C word? I fear for the future of the human race, I really do!!

Go wallabies - better be a better game than this morning!!!!!

Love to all
Claire
