Lovely year 1

Hello all!

So I don't have much to report, but that's a good thing! Because I do believe that I just had my best day of teaching so far...!

Today I was covering year 1 Robins. I didn't have to raise my voice all day, not even once! When I asked the class for attention, they all listened. They did their work, they shared, they did what I ask. It was fantastic! Such a lovely group of children. The part that scared me was when I read the register - they were born in 2010. Oh my goodness, I was in year 12 then! I put it into perspective and told myself it's the same year my second cousin Ella was born. It made me miss her and Sophie a bit, there was even a girl with a similar name in the class! I'll see them soon though.

We had phonics, computing, assembly, guided reading and PE. And everything went great! Seriously, there's not much else to add!! Only one thing - during show and tell they were talking about dinosaurs so I showed them my blog from January 31 about seeing dinosaur footprints in Bolivia. I showed them photos and they loved it!

I've left a note for their teacher telling her they need a reward tmro because it was Miss G's best day yet at the school.

On the way home now and I've decided in my last five weeks I'm going to start turning back into a Melbournian. No matter how many grumpy Londoners push past me, glare at me or shout in the street, I'm still going to be the girl that says "thank you" to the bus driver (no one does that here), that smiles at the shop assistant (even though most of them don't do the same back) and most of all I'm going to be patient at the tube stations. So many people here push and run, behaving as if the 2 minutes they lose because they miss a train is the end of the world. It's all too easy to get caught up in it. So I'm not rushing, I'm not pushing and I'm not getting frustrated. Also every time I see a confused tourist I'm helping them. Today it was two American girls about my age, I led them to the train and they got on the same one as me so they could go to Borough. And then a second opportunity presented itself - I helped a young boy whose mum had sent him to get groceries find everything he needed. I remember mum sending me at home and never knowing where everything was! Warm and fuzzies, a lovely feeling helping people :)

Tonight I've got more jobs to apply for and then I'm skyping my roommate from the second half of South America - Maria who lives in Washington DC. Can't wait!!

Back to high school tmro.

Love to all
Claire
