Bad words and a good show!

Hello all!

Not the best day at school, but it improved immensely due to the theatre tonight.

I won't talk too much about school, but I was at the same high school I've been at thrice now (last time was the day before my birthday). Here's how the day progressed...
- Registration: very rowdy year 11 group who were so loud I literally couldn't get them quiet with my (still!!!) lack of voice
- year 10 history: the teacher wrote the wrong room so I spent 30 minutes in the office with them trying to figure out where the kids were
- year 7 science: I had taught them before and they were lovely :)
- year 10 science: worked alright!
- year 10 English: so. Loud. And I had to keep three boys in, but they pushed past me and refused to stay. Had to report them.
- lunch
- year 8 science. This was the worst of all! One boy was being really cheeky and doing nothing so I calmly gave him the choice of doing some work or staying after school, and he in his wisdom told me to "f*** off". So I put him on call (meaning the teacher on detention duty came and got him) and it went from there. I had to report to the head of science, the lady that looks after supply teachers and apparently I have to go write a report next time I'm there. It's fantastic to see the school take things like that so seriously. I'm completely fine obviously but that's totally unacceptable behaviour!

I just have to accept I did the best I could and that's all I can do.

I came home, chilled for a bit and then got the tube to Piccadilly Circus. Tonight was my third and final show in five days, and it was the one I was most excited about; 'The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time'. We read this in English when I was in year 11 and it was my favourite book we studied at school. It's about a boy called Christopher Boone who is on the autism spectrum, and all about how he sees the world. It's so interesting and funny! I would highly recommend reading it if you haven't, and seeing the show if you get the chance. I think it was one of the best I've ever seen - definitely the best this year!! It was so true to the book and the set was so clever. It was designed to look like a giant grid square (Christopher's mind is very mathematical) and they used lighting and props on that. Hard to explain but it was seriously clever. I paid £14 for this ticket and whilst my initial seat up in the grand circle impeded my view of a tiny bit of the stage, there were plenty of empty ones so I moved and had a great view!! Even treated myself to an ice cream.

I loved how they put a special cover on all the prime number seats as well! In the book he starts explaining a tricky maths problem but then his teacher tells him to put it in an appendix (which he does). Well they acted out the appendix - he came back out and acted the maths problem! As a maths teacher I was SO EXCITED by the fact that I could understand the problem and that they presented it in such a cool way on the stage. :) :) :)

As well as it being my favourite book at school, in year 11 I had my favourite English teacher, Miss Pleasance, who unfortunately passed away of cancer a couple of years ago now. She made such an impact on me at school and I hope she's looking down on me somewhere tonight knowing I went and saw the show of the book we read in class!

I walked to the bus stop through the hoards of theatre goers, through Covent garden and China town (where I'm going for dinner tmro night!) and the rain. Got the bus home and here I am!

I am calling up for work in the morning. Tmro is going to be a better school day, I can feel it!

Love to all
Claire
