Last night Jamie and I went to boot camp. So glad I went. As it's so dark and cold so early now they've started doing it indoors at a gym built for the London 2012 Olympics. The guy running it was fab and I paired up with a nice lady of similar build to me for activities (going with Jamie doesn't work, he's too fast and strong for unfit me!). We then had dinner at a Malaysian place we've wanted to go to for ages. Was delish!
When I left for work this morning it was actually dark. Winter is well and truly coming...
Today was interesting, there wasn't a dull moment that's for sure!
The day started off on a brilliant note. As those of you who read regularly know, I've been applying for lots of teaching jobs back home recently. Well today I heard back from a school and they would like to organise a Skype interview with me! Only problem is it could potentially be at 4am on Friday. I've asked if they could do 11pm my time instead. Only problem is I'm not sure when I'll have much time to prepare, but I'll just have to try my best.
I got to school unaware of who I was covering today. It turned out they were doing performance reviews and I was covering people for those all day. So I spent the morning in reception (England's equivalent of prep) and I loved it. Recognised some of the kids from when I took them in nursery last year, and some who have older siblings I teach. We did phonics and then had free flow. Then I ran a maths session with some of them from each of the two classes counting animals and lining them up. They were so cute. Remembered my name even though I taught them once last year! I had one girl crying because she missed her mum. Like distraught, nearly making herself sick crying. So I told her it was ok because I missed my mummy too so we could sit together and talk about our mummies. So that's what we did!
Next up I was in year 3, with last year's puffins who I used to teach! They had a reading test. Also cute due to remembering my name and acting surprised when I remembered all their names haha.
In the afternoon I was a tad nervous as I was in year 6. At this school I've never been higher than year 4. But they were fantastic! I kept them quietly working and on task for over an hour. A few cheeky comments but writing names on the board (love how quick I learn names) worked a treat.
After school I marked their work and now I'm on the way home. Tonight I'm off to see 'Mamma Mia'. I'm really excited but I feel I should be preparing for this interview! Feeling a bit flustered as my portfolio and my lucky dip of questions is all at home. Never mind! Can't wait to sing to some ABBA and have a great time.
Love to all
Claire
