Hello all!
Sorry for no blog yesterday - life here gets very busy!!
Yesterday I was in year 3 all day. This can be quite a challenging class as one child in particular sets the whole class off. In the morning he was out of class so the students left worked brilliantly. Then we had swimming lessons which involved walking them to the pool. That was...interesting! Tricky work with lots of kids not doing the right thing.
When I told a lot of people I was coming here to teach they all responded with "have fun having chairs thrown at you!" Well yesterday I had a chair thrown...but thankfully not at me!!
Overall it was an alright day. The teacher of that class is really lovely and I get along well with him so had a chat to him when he returned.
Then I met Jamie at Putney station and we got the bus to the Old England Lawn Tennis Club. See my blog post from March 21 if you want all the info on that! Can't believe it's 3.5 months since I was last there.
Unfortunately for us, Murray, Federer and Djokovic all decided to play on the same evening so 2,000 people decided to queue up for evening ground passes before us! The queue was so long that they had sections labelled with numbers (see photos). Yikes!
So we made the best of the situation and decided to enjoy the amazing weather and go for a drink in Wimbledon. We shared a jug of Pimms at a pub while watching Murray win, then had a beer at another pub. I really like how people enjoy and use their weeknights well over here. So lovely having things to look forward to after work!
Next we walked through Wimbledon village to Wimbledon itself. We stopped right in front of the cinema I went and a saw a movie at in May. Here there was a big screen and lots of deck chairs. We had a wonderful evening after nabbing a deck chair each! We had burritos and Foster's and watched Anderson challenge Djokovic! I've decided none of the Aussie players exist at all - how embarrassing by Kyrigos - what an idiot. But we had a really great afternoon and evening :) A funny part was a 1-2 minute confusing conversation when Jamie asked me what I wanted in my burrito. I said anything but spicy food. He then asked if I wanted peppers, and I said no because I had literally just said nothing spicy. Turns out he meant capsicum and I was in Australian mode and didn't realise. Had to google image to sort it out! Lol.
Today I started off in year 2. I had to supervise them while they watched the year 5 and 6 production. The boy with ASD sat the ENTIRE way through the production which went for just over an hour - so proud!!! The production was really great. I was just starting to think the story was familiar when they sang a song and I realised we sang it when I was at primary school at home!! How funny :)
Had the rest of the day in year 4. Helped a small group with maths in the middle session and then taught a lesson about South America (mainly Brazil) in the arvo. Was so good, I knew exactly what I was talking about! We had 20 spare minutes at the end so I showed them lots of photos and videos and then got them to write down 5 things they had learned. They are learning particularly about carnivale - so I talked all about the one I went to in Bolivia!
Now I'm on the way home. Meeting my friend James at my flat tonight, and then getting lots of errands done. Haven't seen him in ages so that'll be good!! Tmro I'm back in year 3. Hopefully the chairs go ok tmro!!!
Love to all
Claire
