Hi all!
Last night I got home in time so that I missed the start of the strike. I had a night of getting sorted. Packed my whole case for the summer and cleaned up my whole room. So weird seeing it bare again. But Joshua has paid me his deposit and he's coming to stay for 3 weeks while I'm away (possibly longer) so I'm having more than half my rent paid now - woohoo!!!!!
This morning I left at 6.15am. I usually leave at 7.05 but as of 6.30pm 20,000 tube workers went on strike so the entire system is on a 24 closure. Yay!! Not. First complete closure in 13 years. Apparently boat queues are an hour long and buses don't even bother. So I walked the hour to Waterloo station and then got the national rail which luckily is still operating. It was lovely weather though so I didn't mind! How many people can say they walk past St Paul's cathedral, millennium bridge and the Thames on their way to work?!? Good exercise too. When I got to Waterloo the queue for the bus was literally 200m long. Thank god I walked!! I took a photo of some of it (see below).
Today I was covering year 3 all day, the other class. They were pretty good! We had maths, literacy, topic and then art. All went fairly well considering the maths work left was really hard. A student teacher took literacy and topic was the same lesson I did with Robert's class earlier this week.
Art was...interesting! Five stations set up, one with paint and one with pastels. I got paint on my top but it's a crappy Primark one. I changed into leggings to not get paint on my skirt which was a good move. They packed up and did well though.
Took a while on the carpet to quieten down so I guilted them all by saying in my cross voice something along the lines of "my goodness. Do you know who I'm seeing tonight? My parents. They've flown all the way from Australia and I haven't seen them in six months, and now I'll have to tell them I'm late because some rude children wouldn't be quiet!" Worked a charm!
We had a baby shower for one of the teachers after school so I didn't get much done but excused myself and am now off to see my parents for the first time since I left. We are meeting at Waterloo tube station and words cannot describe how excited I am! I've changed so much this year but my love for my parents has only grown stronger and since I do everything for myself now I now have a new level of appreciation for everything they do and have done for me. They're amazing!!!
Read about the pies though - bugger :(
Love to all
Claire
