Hi all!
Hot again! But not quite so bad today. Yesterday was the hottest July day in the UK on record as it hit 37 degrees! The hottest day ever at Wimbledon and the hottest day here since 2006. No wonder i was hot!!
Last night I made my way up to Jamie's and we enjoyed the summer weather. I walked to Liverpool St station to get the train and was annoyed to find the whole place packed out with people due to train delays and cancellations. Thankfully there are lots of options from there to Stratford so it didn't take me too much longer. The minute it gets hot here everyone freaks out. I know it's hot, but it's summer and it keeps happening for a little while each year - why are there not systems in place to deal with it???
Had a good night at Jamie's. Tasted some Pimm's which I hadn't yet tried (yum!), chilled out and then had a cider at the local bar. We sat outside and it was quite a comfortable temperature by then. It was 34 until about 7pm!
I didn't sleep very well last night because it was so hot but what can you do. Gaining more appreciation for the cooling at home with every day that passes! I had a total of two ice creams and three showers yesterday. I still felt feral when I went to bed!!
Today I felt well and truly like a real teacher. So many more things to add to my resume!! I had the kingfishers again (and I have them tmro). We had fun in a combined session of PE with the puffins (other year 2 class). I must've looked such an idiot running around taking part in my maxi skirt haha! Then we had spelling and this afternoon they had music. I had to pack popcorn for tmro's school summer fair during this time. I had five kids helping me and I couldn't help but laugh. In fact, Sue (the teaching assistant in kingfishers) and me laughed so hard we cried because the kids were being so funny with the popcorn. Hard to explain, but it was funny!!
Things that made me feel like a real teacher today (sometimes it still feels like I'll be back to Uni in Aus or that I'm a student teacher):
1) Had to call a parent. We have the school walk tmro and he asked me a question before school. Had to find out and ring him!
2) I had to plan a lesson the two student teachers in the class will teach tmro. I gave them my email and pretty much did everything that I found useful that my good mentors did on my placements. They keep telling me how great I am - good confidence boost, always well received!
3) Spoke in assembly!
4) Had to get everything ready for tmro so rather than stressing in the morning I prepared everything possible tonight. I put BBC radio 1 on the laptop, directed the fan on my face and got everything ready at a leisurely pace. Ah :)
Was going to head to wimbledon tonight to check out the vibe, but I think Jamie and I are going to go on Monday. Tonight I've already got dinner left over from Tuesday and I think I might just chill out and possibly catch the bus down to the Thames to go for a wander later on.
One week today until mum and dad arrive - can't believe it!!! :)
I'm doing the same as last week with the footy tmro. Ignoring my phone all day and watching on delay. Not ashamed to say I'll be feeling a bit homesick tmro evening. Big Friday night crunch game at the MCG. Darcy Moore debuting and I'm missing it. And as well as that knowing that Mum, Pa and Ash will all be there doesn't help. Oh well, just got to appreciate that I can still watch. I've a good feeling, I hope we can pull off a win - God I hate Hawthorn!!
Love to all and GO PIES!!
Claire
