Hey all,
Last night we went out and had lots of fun in Killarney! First we went to a pub and watched a one man show by a man called Pa who was a bit like a standup comedian telling us funny stories etc. Boy could he put away some Guinness! Think he drank about six of them during the hour long show.
Afterwards we went to the Grand Union and enjoyed some live music. The singer looked like Adam Goodes! Kat challenged the really rude and horrible guy on our tour to a dance off and we cheered so loud for her we nearly lost our voices.
Had a good night and got to bed about 3am. The plan was to get up and watch Collingwood play at 4.10am, but I was so fast asleep that I didn't wake up to my alarm!! Lucky I didn't - fifth loss in a row :'(
This morning I got up and downloaded the footy to watch on the bus but it didn't work. So slept the 1.5 hours to Blarney Castle. When we arrived Claire A was still feeling hungover so had a quick tactical vomit behind a tree while we all laughed!! Then we went off to explore the castle which was built in 1446. Lucky we went early because we didn't have to queue for too long to kiss the stone but when we came out the line was huuuuge!
There are many legends about the Blarney Stone but Connell told us his favourite. The McCarthy family lived in the castle and apparently the father and son would sit on the roof every night and talk. The son fell in love with a fairy and when he died in battle the fairy told the dad she would take him to her world where they would live happily ever after. The father carried a stone up to the roof and put it in the wall and talked to it every night instead, and that's why it gives you the gift of the fab or eloquent speech if you kiss it!
We waited our turn and then kissed the stone. It was surprisingly far down! You had to hold two bars and a man held your legs, and I still felt like I was going to slip!
We went back down and went to the Poison Garden, a garden full of poisonous plants. There were lots of plants that feature in Harry Potter like wolfsbane and mandrakes! Thought you would appreciate Robyn.
Then we walked around the grounds a bit more. The others went to do a pub lunch but I was happy with my fruit and groceries so I walked around a bit more. It was really well kept and pretty.
Our next stop was in Cashel to look at another castle. It was quite nice but had huge scaffolding on it - never mind!
We drove two more hours and then got back to Dublin. Brendon and I checked into our hostel again (the same one as last week) and now I'm posting this!
I've had such a great time on our Shamrockers tour and would definitely recommend it to anyone thinking of seeing Ireland. Brilliant value with everything included! We've made some really great friends and now I'm really excited to go to Scotland tmro! Not so excited about the 3am getup tmro. Oh well, I hear Edinburgh is well worth it!!
Love to all
Claire
