First of all - bad luck pies. Got up at 6am today to watch the footy and we were so close :( Very disappointing. Next week!!
So I've had a crazy weekend but it's been good. Friday night I packed up all my things at Ann's, had dinner and then she dropped me at the tube station. Somehow by myself I managed my suitcase (very full, very heavy), backpack (same deal), smaller bag and a canvas bag full of food and shoes. Thankfully I could get the northern line all the way from Tooting Bec to Old Street so I just had to sit on the train once I managed the stairs.
Climbed the stairs one last time out of the tube and walked the 10 minutes to the new flat. Here I met Mark, one of my housemates who's from Ireland and is really nice. He helped me take my things upstairs. Only thing is the girls who lived in my room previously have left a massive sofa bed that they told me they would get rid of. You can't take it downstairs in one piece so a friend is lending me some pliers and a screwdriver and I'm going to take it apart at some point this week.
Spent a good 3 hours putting stuff away. I have a walk in cupboard with a huge upper bit that fits my suitcases, a chest of drawers, bookcase and bedside table. Cannot say enough how amazing it is having places to properly put things and knowing I'll be leaving them there for some time to come!!
Got to bed about midnight. Bed not the comfiest but I just have to get used to it. It gets quite light in the room but I've found everywhere here the curtains aren't very good. That's what my eyemask is for so all ok :) other than that I slept pretty well.
Got up yesterday, had a shower and then headed to Louise's place in Hammersmith. I got a few funny looks due to the stars I had stuck of my face but wore some old crap leggings so I wasn't too conspicuous. We got ready together and I put on my costume - silver leggings, blue tutu, black peplum top, silver antennae, silver jewellery and makeup and blue lipstick. We walked to Louise's friend Ash's place and this time I got LOTS of funny looks haha. Went to the supermarket and then spent a while at Ash's. People were literally hanging out car windows, slowing down to look and some even asked us why we were dressed up. At this point, maybe so are you! So let me explain.
We then caught the bus to the rugby 7s with lots of other people. What are the rugby 7s? It's a weekend of rugby at Twickenham. Each team is made up of 7 players and lots of countries play (including Australia - yay!). For some reason there's a theme and everyone dresses up. This year it was galactic!
Had a great day drinking, soaking up the sun (lovely day!) and trying to understand the rules (mostly failing). Australia lost to New Zealand - bummer! But never mind. It was fun and I really enjoy having different experiences like that overseas. Made me miss the MCG though - they thought 77,000 was a big crowd!
Had dinner at a pub with Lou, Em and some of their friends and then got the train back. By this point my cold was getting the better of me and I started to feel awful. Came back and went to bed.
Today I got up at 6 for the footy (dedication!) and since then I've had a massive day of shopping, buying things and getting myself organised. Walked the 45-50 minutes to oxford street where I went to Primark and bought sheets, a duvet, pillows etc. The ones the girls left me were really cheap to be honest. I also got some towels as they said they'd leave me some but didn't. Sorted out my phone, bought something to fix my laptop and got a key cut for the flat as they haven't left me one of those either...! Then walked back carrying a million things. I got lots of funny looks and it was super hard work. Was quite "warm" today so I got really hot but it was great exercise.
Got back to the apartment and the mattress protector and fitted sheet were crap. All the others were ok though, so will just use the fitted sheet the girls left me. The laptop is fixed but the key I cut doesn't work. Sigh!!! Nothing works easily here haha. Headed back out, walked back to Primark and returned the two items. Then did some grocery shopping for basics to keep me going s little while. I carried them to the movies at Piccadilly Circus and met Ashlee and her friend and we saw 'Pitch Perfect 2' which was good but not as good as the first one!
I am absolutely wrecked. Have hardly even sat down all weekend. About to have 6 hours of sleep too - aaaaah!
By the way - if ever there isn't a blog while I'm in London just check back the next day. Doing my best to stay up to date but life is crazy here! This week no exception.
Love to all
Claire
