A new teaching agency and the return of my coat!

Hi all!

So you're going to see a recurring theme on my blog about living here. I'm basically feeling overwhelmed and while I'm having a good time I suppose it's hard while the work is uncertain and I'm settling in. A huge skype session with Brendon and then Nan and Pa helped last night though.

Woke up feeling absolutely shocking this morning but rang Mum and that helped. Felt really sick and dizzy, unsure what that was all about!! So I lay down for a while and then got a few things done. Set out about 12 and got a few errands done too.

I then headed to Hammersmith (saw the Novotel where you stayed from the tube Nan and Pa!) and bought a few little things I needed etc. I intended on having a few photos developed to stick on the wall of my room next week but when I handed the receipt for 16 normal 6x4 prints and was told it was £11, I walked out!!! Stuff that - 15 cents each at home. I went to Boots because apparently they're cheap but all the machines were broken. Instead I ended up buying an electric toothbrush. Might seem silly given I'm worried about money at the moment but I promised myself at the start of the year I would. Money is important to save but having good teeth for the rest of my life is too, and Boots had half off them so it only cost £17.50 - not too bad!!

Went to the office of the new teaching agency after that and had a meeting. First thing I noticed is that they're a lot more chilled out. The office was really cool and everyone was in jeans. Apparently all the people who work there are still teachers as well and do daily supply work quite often to keep in touch with the schools and gain a perspective as to what they're like. Also - they're all Aussie! They were so nice and made me feel lots better but my issue is now that because the other two agencies either didn't tell me about a fee you could pay so your police check can be used by multiple agencies or won't give me my police check, I need to pay £55 for another one or I can't work through them. So I'm still feeling stressed out and overwhelmed, and worried that I won't get any work.

After the teaching agency I went back to Louise's where I went last Saturday and got my coat - was too close by to not! I had a really good chat for about an hour with her and her sister Mon who I also met in Greece. Turns out they felt just as overwhelmed when they first arrived, and Mon has had lots of bad experiences with agencies. When she first arrived the one she signed up with for work (and paid - at least I haven't paid!) never found her any work. Until she found some herself she was spending money with nothing coming in and was literally down to her last £10!!!

Took my coat back and got the train home. Lots of delays so finally I got back at 7pm. Only to discover the toothbrush is for a European PowerPoint. If something could go my way that'd be great!!! Why on earth were they selling a European adaptor?!? Have decided I'll buy a euro to Aussie one in Iceland in two weeks then plug it into my powerboard when it needs to charge.

Tomorrow I have my first ever day of teaching. I'm not that nervous because I've been so busy trying to sort things out that I haven't thought about it too much!! Hopefully I'm ok. Think of me! Collingwood will be playing Geelong while I'm teaching 4-5 years olds haha.

Love to all

PS: The photo is due to me seeing polling booths everywhere today because it was Election Day!
