Hello!
First of all, Chuk Mung Nam Moi (Happy New Year!) because today is New Year's Eve here for lunar new year!!
Today most of us went on a bike ride/buffalo ride/boat ride. We cycled through the streets of Hoi An to get to the countryside which was a bit hairy. At the start, Tom revealed he hadn't ridden a bike since the 1990s. Oh dear! We got 20m down the road and he crashed into a girl going the wrong way. The look on her face was hilarious, if looks could kill!! We crossed busy intersections, and further down the road he hit a stationary bike and came off. Then (luckily) we were in the countryside. We saw rice fields, buffalo and lots of farmers. We stopped to help one farming family water their garden and then later on all had a ride on a buffalo. It was NOT comfortable, especially after sitting on a bike seat and going over lots of bumps haha!! We went through water and half of my runners got absolutely soaked in dirty awful water. Glad I had my typhoid shot!
It got quite hot riding along, but Laura and I sunscreened twice. Am still yet to get sunburnt (hooray!) I hope I can go the whole holiday. Have accepted I'd rather be pale than have more moles removed and get skin cancer and yucky skin down the track. But we have already gone through a whole bottle of sunscreen between the two of us! So we bought a new one here.
We had lunch and a nice cold drink at a bar called Before and Now with Tom, James and Emma. It was absolutely delicious, having cheese here is a rare occurrence and seeing it's my favourite food I have been craving it!!! They don't really have it here unless it's imported.
I picked up my pants and they are absolutely fantastic!! They fit me perfectly and I love them!
At 2pm seven of us drove north 30 minutes to Marble Mountain. We were also joined by a Swiss girl and a New Zealander from another tour group. This was the third and final instalment of mine and Laura's adrenaline theme pack. The first two were zip lining and quad biking. The surroundings were amazing. We all rappelled three separate parts. The first was 15m into a dark cave, the second 35m down a sheer cliff face with a great view of the ocean and the third was a 55m drop into a cave that had a temple in it. The Viet Cong used to hide out in there too. I surprised myself at how good if was at it! The first one I wasn't scared at all. The other two made me a little nervous but I seemed to be pretty good at it! It was a lot of fun, I'm so glad we did it! Jumping down the side was especially fun, felt like you were flying!!!
Tonight we are heading out for dinner and then celebrating the lunar new year (Tet). I will add more then.
Chuk Mung Nam Moi!!!!!
