Arrived Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon)

Hi all!

So we survived our night in the homestay! We didn't sleep very well though, my back and neck were very sore today!!! In the middle of the night roosters were being very loud which woke us up, but the scariest thing was a huge loud bang about 3.30am, which we later discovered was fruit dropping on a tin roof!!!!

We had our second sleep talking episode. I have been known to talk in my sleep sometimes. The night before last I woke us both up talking about $4. And last night I woke up yelling that there was something on my mosquito net, so much so that Laura and Leah and other people woke up, and Leah turned the light on to prove to me nothing was there...sorry guys!!! But I didn't get any mozzie bites, which for me is absolutely amazing as they seem to love me.

This morning we had brekky and then went to the floating markets in Can Tho, where the locals sell their produce by boat, and instead of a sign saying what they sell they put a piece of the fruit they sell on a big stick and put this on their boat. We saw lots of different kinds of fruit and boats, and even had a few (minor) collisions. A couple of people bought pineapple. Our local guide then sang us a Tet song. Tet is Vietnamese lunar new year, which is coming up on January 31. This means the streets are decorated with lots of red and yellow flowers (colours of the flag) and it looks a bit like Christmas everywhere. Then she started singing One Direction, to which Laura and I joined in, only to find out we were the only ones who knew every single word. Again..oops! Haha.

We had a four hour bus journey to Ho Chi Minh City, then checked in at the hotel and went for an orientation walk. After a quick (very late) lunch stop, we walked and saw the city hall, flower street, post office, market and Notre Dame Church. On the way back we did a bit of souvenir shopping! The traffic here is mental, but Quinny once again showed us how to cross without being killed, and Laura, Jo, Tom, James and myself managed to make it back to the hotel in one piece so it must've worked!!!!

Tonight we had a great dinner, during which I discovered there are 10 million people in Ho Chi Minh City - just under half the population of Australia!!!! Yikes. Then we went to a bar called The Hair of the Red Dog, where we had a drink and a dance. We are both feeling much better today!!!

We were a bit boring and left early though as us, Leah and James are taking a two hour journey to the Cu Chi Tunnels tomorrow morning.

We are taking an overnight bus tomorrow night, I will try and post before we leave :)

Also - happy Australia Day!!! Thinking of all our loved ones in the best country in the world. G'DAY MATE! Hehe.

Love to all
Claire and Laura
