Arrived Vietnam

Hello all!

So I know I said I'd have no wifi but it turns out home stays in the middle of nowhere in Vietnam have wifi - who knew!!

Today we boarded a bus at 7am and started our very long journey to Can Tho, Vietnam. The first trip was 4 hours to the border crossing, where we had to walk 150m in the heat to cross over. Luckily processing our visas didn't take very long so we were on our way again quickly, as it was very hot!!

It was at this stage that Laura started to feel ill. Our 'family' has a fe will people at the moment! Emma hasn't been well at all for two days, Nina was in hospital with food poisoning and I had sunstroke. Laura today event quite pale and was unwell on the bus, but she's told me to tell you all she feels much better now. She's been in bed since about 7.30 sleeping soundly, I think a good night's sleep will set her right. I will take good care of her Ian and Wendy, don't worry!!!

Our second bus trip collectively was 5 hours. Quinny (who is Vietnamese) took great delight in teaching us some basic Vietnamese and some history, he assures us there is much more to come along the way. We stopped for lunch along the way and tonight arrived at our homestay outside of Can Tho. I had absolutely no idea what this would be like, as the houses along the way were very dilapidated. Have I ever mentioned how much I adore our house Mum and Dad? I love its four walls and roof especially!! Because a lot of the houses here have sides made of advertisements and are falling to pieces. But luckily we arrived here and the accommodation is basic but great! It's a bit like a school camp, a few rooms that all open onto each other. The local women cooked us dinner, I wish I was properly hungry but my tummy is still playing up.

We have our mosquito nets all set up ready to go for tonight. The roof is half open, I hope no spiders or mice decide to pay me a visit in my sleep - eek!!

Love to all and speak to you in Ho Chi Minh City tomorrow!
Love to all
Claire
