Last night Rach, Vicki and Gerald got home about 10pm and we had a late pizza dinner - yummmmm. Then Rachel, Vicki and I stayed up chatting and drinking wine. It was so fantastic to see them and I'm so glad I came back to Bath :) I'll be seeing Rachel again in just under a month for my birthday!
This morning Rach drove me to the station and I caught my trains from Bath to St Ives, Cornwall with three stops along the way. I had some gorgeous summer views (including rain and grey clouds!!!). Finally at 2pm after just over five hours I arrived in St Ives! Checked into my hostel which is really nice and then went exploring.
Firstly I walked past a youth theatre performing 'Oliver' and I nabbed the last ticket for Friday night as it got fantastic reviews. Yay - exciting!
Wow it's beautiful here! I was lucky enough to get some sunshine. Apparently it poured with rain all morning until just before I arrived and then it was nice. I walked along the port area and stood and took it all in, so gorgeous. There was even a seal swimming there!! All the boats were pulling up beside it.
Naturally because it was sunny and 15 degrees everyone was building sand castles, boogie boarding, sun baking and swimming. Gotta take advantage while you can! I bought a Cornish pasty (which apparently Jamie told me on the phone I am saying wrong, the a is pronounced like the a in 'apple'!) and it was delicious. I sat and people watched at the beach while I ate it. I then walked along the pier and walked to the back end of town to the island or St Ives Head. There was a chapel up the top called Saint Nicholas Chapel which was used as a lookout during war times. I walked around and enjoyed the views as the inevitable English grey clouds began to descend! I walked back down and meandered through the streets. Walking around them here makes me think it's an English version of Mykonos!
Headed back to the hostel and when I got to the room a really nice Lithuanian girl called Neringa. We got to chatting as I'm going to Lithuania in October for a few days, and we ended up going for dinner together! Neringa is really nice and very easy to get along with. She's studying in Norwich (southeast England) and is in town for her frien'd wedding tomorrow. She's a vegetarian so we went to a vego restaurant. We both had black bean patties with beetroot and walnut pate and salad. It was delicious! I've been eating so much heavy food recently so it was nice to enjoy a lighter meal. We had a table with a gorgeous view over the bay! Afterwards we went for a walk along some cliffs near the island.
We hung out at the hostel for a while and now Neringa has gone to meet some friends. I tell you, this travelling thing is wonderful, but boy it's hard on your body. I counted and I have 43 mozzie bites that I somehow got at Rachel's. So now my immune system has that to deal with as well as all the other stuff accumulating. I'm ringing up tmro to see if I can get an appointment for Friday at the doctors here.
Love to all
