Hey everyone!
Had a great night last night going out for Emma's friend's birthday in the west end of Glasgow. Got all dressed up and had a really nice time :) The funny thing was I couldn't understand a lot of what Emma and her friends were saying! They spoke SO fast and with heavy accents!! Haha. I kept having to get Emma to translate. Got to bed at 3.30am but woke up feeling fine!
Today Emma and I took a wee day trip to St Andrews. St Andrews is famous for two main reasons - golf and its university. The British Open is on here every year and its a very famous golf course. The university is the oldest in Scotland and the third oldest in the English speaking world. During term time the students make up approximately 1/3 of the population of the town! Most recently it's had attention due to it being where Wills and Kate met and fell in love :)
It took us about 2 hours to drive there and we found a park and went walkabout. We walked to the cathedral ruins (consecrated 1318), then to the castle ruins (built 1400-1560). We then found a little cafe called 'Northpoint' where apparently Wills and Kate used to go on dates. We each had a toastie and some yummy pepper and tomato soup.
Set off walking again and went through the main streets. We went through the university which was really nice, there was a wedding on in the chapel and a bagpiper out front. We then moved the car and walked through the golf course. The grass was lovely to walk across and I was surprised to find you could just walk through! We went to the loo in the club house and they were sooooo posh! The golf course was established in 1552 and is one of the best in the world. We got our picture taken on Swilcan Bridge which is over 700 years old!! It was originally used for shepherds to walk sheep across the small river.
We took a walk along the beach and had a bit of a sit down. The sun even made an appearance which was nice!
We then drove back towards Glasgow and went to Cambuslang to Emma's parents' house for dinner. I met Emma's mum, dad, brother, brother's girlfriend and niece! Her niece Olivia reminded me a lot of Sophie and Ella. Similar hair and eyes and cheeky demeanour :) We had haggis for a starter so I could try it. I really liked it! Then we had yummy lasagne and Nutella cheesecake for desert.
Now we are back at Emma's flat and I've met her boyfriend Mark who is really nice too. Going to watch 'Braveheart' now!
Love to all
Claire
