This morning I woke up and surprise, surprise I have another awful cold. This one is much more achy. Never mind!
We had breakfast and then headed off to the station. We began our 4-5 hour journey to Betws-y-coed in Wales. We changed trains three times and had a couple of issues with our trains. Our first train to Manchester was on time, but our train from there to Crewe in England was late due to the driver not turning up. Who knew that could happen ?!! We arrived in Crewe and our next train to Lladjudno was late due to the coaches not joining together. So we had two coaches instead of five and the train was completely jam packed. Luckily because we got on early we got a seat for the 1.5 hour journey. We crossed the border into Wales and luckily our last train had no issues!
We arrived at Betws-y-coed (pronounced bettuss-ee-coid) and met our host Emma at the B&B. Betws-y-coed means 'prayer house in the wood'. We spent the afternoon wandering around enjoying the greenery and lovely scenery. Betws-y-coed is in the heart of Snowdonia, an area in the north of Wales. There are so many people out and about here, but it's a lovely little village. We saw the pont-y-pair bridge and the lovely river, and watched a short film at the visitor centre. We then went searching for Fairy Glen and failed miserably, but saw the Waterloo Bridge (built in 1815) and lots of pretty scenery along the way. We ended up so far off the beaten track that there was no track at all and we were forced to walk along a stone wall or risk walking on the road. It felt like I was a kid walking on that wall, used to do it all the time as a little girl!!!
We came back and had a rest and then went for some quick takeaway dinner and an ice cream, as at 8pm we went to a welsh male choir concert. Apparently Wales is very famous for its choirs and we were lucky enough to be in town on Sunday evening when there is a weekly concert inside the gorgeous St Mary's Church. The choir performing tonight were called Côr Meibion Prysor and they came from a village 20 miles away. We had a great two hours listening to songs in English and songs in Welsh, and even had to sing along to a few (including a Welsh hymn and the Welsh national anthem!!!!).
Another great day and I'm now officially up to country number 47 - the elusive 50 is getting closer and closer!!!!!
Love to all
Claire
