Vidden Hike

Hello everyone!

Slept fairly well last night considering the sun rises at 4am! Although a truck sat in the street at 2am with its engine running and after 20 minutes I had to go outside and ask him to move haha.

What a wonderful day I have had :) to start off the day I listened to Collingwood vs Melbourne on the radio and we won by 33 points - yay!! Headed out to the chemist at half time....still bloody closed. So putting up with my sore throat still! Never mind.

After the footy I headed out and caught a public bus to Haukeland Hospital at the base of Mt Ulriken. My options were a) pay $30 for a tourist bus that takes you directly there or b) pay $5 for a public bus and figure it out myself. I figured it out myself! It was really easy and I had to walk only 5 minutes to the cable car once off the bus.

I caught the cable car up Mt Ulriken. Bergen is surrounded by 7 mountains and this is the highest. The views were amaaaazing! Then I started my hike. I was a little nervous because I had read reviews saying that the hike I was doing can be quite tough and take up to 6 hours. Nevertheless I set off. I hiked all the way from Mt Ulriken to Mt Fløyen across a plateau called Vidden. It was kind of signposted. Lucky for me the weather was stunning so lots of locals decided to do the same hike. So for most of the day I was able to follow the trail of other people. I originally intended to go to museums today, but couldn't pass up the opportunity of the weather !!!

The hike started over the plateau. I saw lakes, little houses (one with sheep!) and beautiful views. Could even see snow capped mountains in the distance!! The hike got quite hilly at some points and quite rocky! And even though it was only 18 degrees I got hot very quickly!

I sat and had lunch in a secluded place. It was dead silent and I enjoyed my lunch with an incredible view. Then I continued on and the hike went very steeply downhill. I fell on my bum and had a good laugh at myself - got some strange looks from the locals!!

Then it went uphill after that very steeply and I got very tired!! Eventually ended up in a more foresty area with a beautiful view of Bergen. Sat here for a while and continued on. Arrived at an ice cream shop and eagerly bought one!!

Before I knew it I was in Fløyen! The hike only took me 4 hours, and I sat and enjoyed the view of Bergen before I got the funicular down!!

Had a rest and then went for a walk in the sunshine, then bought dinner at the takeaway place. Had fish cakes with gravy and salad - yum!! Then another 3 scoop ice cream.

Wrecked now and can't wait to sleep!!!

Love to all
