Hiked a glacier, crossed into the arctic circle!

Hi all!

Same deal with photos tonight. There's wifi but not very good so if no photos you know why, hopefully they'll work though!!

Got up at 5.20am today so I could pack everything early and sit outside in the freezing cold icy wind to listen to Collingwood play. Dedication! Today was the one day we left before 8am though so I only got to listen to about 3/4 of the first quarter. Also today was the only day we had no reception so I didn't know the result til about four hours after the game ended!!!! Bugger we lost but hawthorn seem to have something over us. Having so many injured never helps....next week!

We set off early and had brekky on the bus. Then we got a 20 minute boat to the foot of the glacier hike. We hiked one hour each way to Svartisen Glacier; Norway's second largest glacier. The climb was fine on the way, but on the way back was very slippery and Freya and I got a little lost!! I slipped at one stage and smacked my wrist but it seems to be ok now.

Well worth it though because the glacier was beautiful! I didn't get too close as they can move and bots break off. Some people went right inside, but I didn't fancy instant death if anything moved!!!

On the way to our next stop we saw reindeer walking alongside the road - magic! No photos. Was one of those mental snapshot moments. Next stop was the arctic circle visitor centre as we crossed into the arctic circle!! It was bloody cold! My beanie has been well worth the money. We got out picture with the sign, bought some souvenirs (got my magnet!!) and got back on the bus.

We arrived at camp about 7.30pm after getting lost! It didn't rain when unpacking the bus for once and was actually quite sunny. Rained a bit at the glacier but was warm climbing, but here there isn't much wind so it's not too bad! I had a quick shower. Our room is weird. Libby and I are sharing with Toben and Lauren and our two beds are in like a loft up a very unsteady ladder. Hope I don't need the bathroom during the night!!!!

Enjoyed pork chops for dinner tonight with lollies and melted chocolate for dessert - yummo!

Tonight is midsummer and it was winter solstice at home. So for the next few days the sun won't set at all. Has been so weird here. I woke at 12.30am last night thinking it was time to get up because it was so light!!

Just watched Germany and Ghana draw and think I'll go to sleep soon - been another massive driving day!!

It is so beautiful, natural and wonderful here though. I don't care about the cold because I am constantly stunned by how beautiful my surroundings are. Norway is amazing.

Tmro we continue up north and do a polar plunge swim in the arctic waters. I feel cold just thinking about it!!

As always there might not be wifi tmro but I'll try my best :)

Love to all
Claire
