Hi all!
We woke up this morning and it had snowed! It continued to all afternoon and got very heavy about 3pm!
Today we caught the train to Montreux which took about 20 minutes. From here we walked 40 minutes to the Chateau Chillon. This walk is called the 'flower path' and I wasn't expecting much because it's winter, but there were still some pretty flowers alongside the lake! And also some animals made of ferns! It was a lovely walk. We saw the statue of Freddie Mercury. Queen had a recording studio in Montreux and apparently he loved it there.
We arrived at Chateau Chillon, which had its appearance first recorded in the 1100s. The dukes of savoy built and extended it over the years. In 1536 it was taken over by the Bernese occupation who again modified the castle a bit. In 1803 the canton of Vaud (the state that Lausanne is in too) was formed and the Chateau became public property. It was restored and is now a museum. We got in for free on our Swiss pass even though we weren't meant to today as technically it has run out - win! We were given a great brochure that directed you on a route through the castle and had lots of information. I loved it because all the doors were very low, but at 158cm in height I didn't have to duck once - hehe! A Claire sized castle! Many of the paintings on the walls and timber roofs were restored in the early 1900s and looked very medieval! We spent about 2 hours and really enjoyed it. It was so cold though! At one point I was doing star jumps and mum was running in circles to keep warm hahaha.
Then we walked back to Montreux. By this time it was very foggy. We were lucky this morning and could see across the lake! We bought a sandwich each for lunch and headed back to Lausanne. Got the metro and looked at the Olympic museum again, but even though it says it should be open it was closed again! But due to 2 years of renovations it's only a small exhibition at the moment anyway. We bought our dinner at the supermarket as we are trying to keep track of how many Swiss francs we have left. Tomorrow I fly to Nice to meet Billy (he is currently flying somewhere just off the coast of Australia - yay!!) so will be back to the euro and mum flies home! So we are having sandwiches and yoghurt for dinner haha!
Have loved this 7 weeks with mum. Not many mothers and daughters could spend literally 24/7 together for 7 weeks and barely even have an argument. If you're reading this when you're at the airport or at home mum then I love you and thank you for making this such an incredible holiday!! I hope you have enjoyed the time we've had together as much as I have.
Until next time,
See you all in France!
Love to all,
Claire
