Cimiez Convent, Matisse Museum, macaroons, socca (chickpea crepes), old town, Palais Lascaris

Hi all!

Today we walked to the Cimiez Convent which was uphill and took us about 30-40 minutes. The convent was pretty interesting but what we really enjoyed were the gardens! The only downside about coming here in winter is that all the usually pretty gardens are bare and depressing. But this one had flowers and sunshine - yay! So we enjoyed the beautiful views from there for a while then went to the Matisse museum. There were no English explanations at all which made it really hard to understand what you were looking at. As well as that, the 2nd floor was closed for renovations (it's the 50th anniversary of the museum so they're updating it) so I didn't see all that many paintings. But we still liked it and the building was beautiful!

We headed back down the hill and found a cute little macaroon shop so bought 4 each, soooooo yum!!!! Then we went to Place Garibaldi and ate lunch in the sunshine. We bought a traditional Nice food called socca which is crepe made of chickpeas and was very filling!

Then we walked through the narrow streets of old town. It's so pretty here! The streets are full of colour and the sun just makes it all even brighter and prettier! There are street vendors selling flowers and people playing the accordion. How very French!!

I took Billy up the Chateau hill again and once again it was sunny and the views were gorgeous! Then we walked along the promenade again (more sunshine!!!!) and had a quick walk through Palais Lascaris, a 17th century Genoese mansion.

Tonight we went out for dinner along the promenade which was really nice! I spilt the only cocktail I've had all holiday though all over my jeans and thermal leggings :( so I have washed them and hopefully they dry before we head off to Barcelona on Sunday.

Billy still not 100% used to the timezone, he's fast asleep again already!! Haha. We did do heaps of walking today though, I'm fairly tired myself. Off to Monaco tomorrow for a day trip, lots more walking to come!!

Love to all,
Claire
