Hello everyone!!
This morning mum walked me to the station and the path was a bit snowy but not too bad! I caught the 4.51am train to Geneva airport where I checked in all ok. Made a few phone calls on the pay phone. God it's weird being alone. Any time I wanted to go anywhere I had to carry all my stuff! And having a conversation in my head with myself gets really old, I had forgotten what it was like since my last trip! Thank goodness Billy is here haha!
I had a bad feeling about my flight today. On my trip in 2010 the day I was meeting mum and flying from Munich to Prague to meet her, my flight was cancelled and it was a total nightmare and took me 18 hours of waiting in airports to get to Prague. I just had this awful feeling this would happen again. Anyway, I got on the plane and all seems to be going fine. Then we sit there. And sit there. And half an hour passes. And a French announcement comes over the speaker. The lady next to me was nice and told me there were technical difficulties and they didn't know if we were going to be able to fly. In my head I screamed 'NOT AGAIN!!!!!' - couldn't believe it!!! But luckily after an hour of sitting there the problem was fixed and we took off. I had an amazing view of the French alps on my flight and then of Nice as we approached! I found the bus to the station easily and walked to our hostel. It's pretty good! Really friendly people, good Internet and a good room to ourselves.
Then I set off by myself for 3 hours before billy got here. I walked to Place Massena, a big square near our hostel. It's currently full of chairs and a stage because the Nice carnival is on next week! So I continued through the old town and meandered my way through cute little streets with coloured buildings and washing hanging out of the windows. It's so beautiful here! Then I walked up the Chateau hill where Nice's former castle was. The view from here was incredible! The weather today was 15 and sunny (all I had on was my 3/4 sleeve top and a thin jumper and jeans!). I had a view on one side of the town and on the other of the port. Walked around and saw some cemeteries and castle ruins as well! At 12 noon a cannon went off and scared me to death - apparently a couple of hundred years ago a guy called Sir Thomas Coventry-Moore used to fire this to remind his wife to come home and make lunch! And they still fire it today!
I headed back down the hill and went to the Cours Seleya markets and bought some delicious Brie for 10 euros a kilo - yum!!! Then walked along the gorgeous Promenade des Anglais and passes many joggers, walkers and cyclists! Saw the famous Hotel Negresco and headed to the station to meet Billy. I think I'm going insane because he walked right up to me and I didn't even notice!! It's so great to see him again!!!! We walked to the hostel, dumped our stuff (our room was ready then) and spent the afternoon strolling along the beach and then sitting at a viewing point of the promenade for an hour. He's really tired though so we got some groceries then headed back to the hostel. He barely slept on the plane so was out like a light at 6pm!
Going out to grab some take away dinner soon. By the way pa, the main street perpendicular to the promenade that we are staying just off is called Avenue Jean Medicin. Galeries LaFayette is just over the road!
Love to all,
Claire
