Yesterday was my last day at school here in England. I've worked at the same school for most of my time here and I started there on my first day of working back in May. I made sure I sat and looked at the Eye and Big Ben from the train for the last time on my way to work. Snapped some pictures too, one day I'll need proof to show my kids I used to go past them on my way to work!
I had an alright last day, the morning and middle sessions went quite well but I'll be honest the afternoon was awful. I was teaching older kids and they just wouldn't listen. We had PE and some were even outright rude to me. To be honest it was probably the worst session I've taught at that school.
Despite this I had a great day, luckily the children in years 2-4 made me some lovely surprises! I got beautiful cards signed by the kids, and even some gifts too! I got a scarf and photo frame from the teachers, a box of chocolates from year 3 and some flowers from year 4. I also got absolutely mobbed in a group hug any time I went outside or children saw me!! Haha.
It was definitely Friday the 13th though. Weird things kept happening!! We had a fire drill in the rain, and then at lunch time it started hailing all of a sudden and the wind was so bad it was horizontal! Strange!!
After school I met with Alisha and we went to the pub next to school for dinner and drinks. Had a fantastic night, so many people from school showed up!! I felt very loved. We chatted, drank and laughed for hours. Some of the parents from school were around as it's a local pub, but it didn't matter we just waved and smiled!!
Got home with Ash about midnight and read the devastating news about Paris. I hope one day we can live in a world where people don't feel the need to kill other people who are completely innocent. But right now I'm just thanking my lucky stars that a year ago when Ash booked her flight and asked if I wanted to go to Paris the last weekend I was away (this weekend!) I said no as I didn't think I would have the money and I thought it would be too hard. Mark, my housemate, has a friend who was meant to be going to that theatre tonight. My thoughts are with everyone involved.
In happier news, today Ash and I got up and walked to Primrose Hill via Regents Canal. It rained the whole time but only spat so it was bearable. We had a great 1.5 hour walk, saw swans, crazy loud ducks, a canal boat going through a lock (so cool!) and went through Camden. Then we enjoyed the view at Primrose Hill. I came here in my first week and now I'm here in my last :) You can see all of London's main attractions. Then we walked back to Camden and had some lunch. The food market here is amazing! We shared some gourmet Mac and cheese, a polish sausage and then a brownie and fruit smoothie. Yum!!! Delicious.
Here we met Rachel (who lives in Bath and as my roommate in South America) who had come into London for the day. The three of us then got the tube (my last time getting the tube - sad face!!) and Rachel and I headed to Spitalfields market while Ash went home to pack up her suitcase. Rach and I had a great time and I bought a map from the 1920s of London which showed where I lived. It's so lovely! I paid a bit for it bit think it's a great souvenir.
