Hello all!
After just 5-6 hours sleep after 15 hours on my feet yesterday I slowwwwly got out of bed this morning. Push on!!
Got to school and the day began. Not gonna lie - today was hard. Some days as a supply things don't quite go as you would hope and you find yourself blaming yourself. I have to stop doing that. If I do my best, that's all I can do, and that's that! I have a terrible habit whilst teaching of focusing on all the things that go wrong and never giving myself credit for the things I've done right. A lot more went right today than went wrong.
The day started off well. One of the girls walked into the classroom and said "you look lovely today miss!" This made me feel good. After 5.5 hours sleep and only enough time to literally have a ten second shower, I wasn't feeling very "lovely". I laughed and said thank you. So a good start.
Maths first, then literacy. They had to map out a story they'll be writing next week (nervous about that..!). A lot struggled to be honest. Then I had 15 minute play break (which after telling them off for being too loud and taking them down usually ends up being about 7 minutes at most) before topic. Today we wrote instructions about how we made our puzzles. They were meant to set it out neatly and clearly. I went over it really meticulously on the carpet, typed it up on the computer/tv display and gave them a template to help. "Does anyone have any questions?" *silence* "hands up if you understand what we have to do" *all hands up* -next minute- all at their desks "miss, I don't understand what we have to do". Aaaargh. I didn't have a teaching assistant with me at this point either which meant it was just impossible. Some of the children in the class really struggle with their writing and I tried to help them but the others needed help too. Think we might have to redo it some time with some of them.
This afternoon we had PE and it was sunny (yay!) so we played a beanbag game outside which they seemed to enjoy. But then three kids grazed themselves which was stressful, but we got there.
In assembly this afternoon I have star of the week to a boy who all week has been completely brilliant in helping me if I haven't done something quite the way Alisha does. He's been kind to the new boy and just made an effort overall. I found out this morning his dad is a kiwi and he and one of the other boys are going to the rugby World Cup next week - same game as me!!!
By the way - scary fact. Looked at the register today. These kids were born in 2009. 2009!!!! I feel old (don't laugh - I know I'm only nearly 23 but to me the fact they were born when I was in year 11 is weird!).
Tonight just resting and chilling and Jamie is coming over for dinner later. Tmro the rugby World Cup starts and I'm quite excited! Going to his then to watch the opening ceremony and the first game; England vs Fiji. I'm supporting Australia of course but I wouldn't mind if NZ or England won it either :) I better try to properly understand the rules - and fast!!!
Love to all
Claire
