Hi all!
Much better day today - yay!
Jamie came over for dinner last night. I'm fast becoming a Masterchef and whipped up mince patties with tomato and mushroom sauce and some veggies. Mmmmm.
First up we had assembly. Normally this goes for 30 minutes. Today it went for 50 because we had a draw much like a Melbourne Cup sweep, assigning a Rugby World Cup team for each class. For someone who doesn't know much about rugby, I'm pretty bloody excited for it to start tonight I must say! It kind of feels like the FIFA World Cup or Olympics are started.
Anyway. The head teachers asked students to put their hands up and say which countries teachers might support. I expected the kids to raise their hand and say their regular teacher would support Australia. But instead, one girl raised her hand, beamed at me and said "Miss G will support Australia!" Naw. In the end we got assigned Fiji, and I cheered when the year 4s got Aus. I was so excited we got Fiji because I saw their team last week - could use the photos as a reward!
Never a dull moment at school. Half way through assembly a kid comes over to me "Miss - *** has just lost his tooth!" Ever had to hold a kid's tooth for 40 minutes in your bare hand? Me either - yuck haha.
We then had more portrait drawing, then spelling and mental maths after break. In the afternoon we met up with our buddy class (year 5) and they left the children some feedback about their puzzles. Any spare time I had was spent showing Fiji on a map, looking at their flag, showing them photos from mum's holiday and then the ones I took the other day. I've made them a worksheet to colour in the flag for next week. Gotta get in the spirit!! It's even more exciting as the opening match tonight is between England and Fiji.
I got the work that wasn't done properly yesterday fixed up which was good!!
The end of the day we ran out of time and I was in such a rush that I forgot to give the little boy his tooth. So I wrote the tooth fairy a note hopefully excusing him for forgetting to remind me about his envelope at the end of the day. Should be ok - the tooth fairy was pretty forgiving one time when I lost my tooth at a restaurant. Think she's a nice lady!
The platform southbound from Putney was headed to Twickenham and every train was packed as people were headed to the rugby. Glad mine was going the other way!!!
I've been home and got my things. I've got my rugby World Cup chart on the wall ready to fill in as the games progress. And happy Friday me - I've logged on to check my pay and have been paid £213 more than I thought I would. That's $470!!!!! Mark tried to explain it to me, something about my umbrella company claiming tax back as I was taxed too high when I first arrived here. Oh my god!!! So happy I booked the rugby now and I can pay Jamie back AND afford my rent. I've also now got work locked in for Wednesday, so Monday - Wednesday all set next week :)
I've just left on a train from Liverpool Street station, I've attached a photo as I was on a different platform this evening and the roof here is lovely. Thought you would like mum. On my way to Jamie's now. We are going to cook dinner together and then watch the opening ceremony and England vs Fiji. I already part get the rules but I did a bit of research last night so hopefully I can follow it a bit better now!!!
Go England! (And Fiji as that's the kingfisher team!)
Love to all
Claire
