Hi all!
I allowed myself to sleep in until 9 today, it was great :) And lucky me - the clever Easter bunny found me all the way in France! I got a Lindt bunny, a small white chocolate Miffy and another milk chocolate rabbit. Yummmmm!
Took it a bit easy this morning and then headed out as it was sunny!! Woo! First day of sun I've had in France! And according to the weather forecast there's a few more days of it to come.
I intended on going for a run but unfortunately for me you couldn't access the fortress on the hill I wanted to run up because the tide was high! And due to it being Easter weekend there were people EVERYWHERE. It was hard to walk the city walls let alone run them. So I went for a walk around instead. It was lovely in the sun!
Headed back to the apartment, grabbed my things and set off for the GR34 coastal footpath, which is based on the former coastguards' track in the 17th and 18th centuries to patrol tea, tobacco, wine and spirits being smuggled across the Channel to avoid England's high import duties. It's 1700km long and takes 10 weeks if you do the whole lot! But I only had one day haha.
I walked from St Malo to Pointe de la Varde. Part way via the beach, and part way via the track. The first hour was sunny and the beach was windy but nice. I saw lots of forts out at sea and lots of bits of wood that look like they were part of a previous pier or something. Ended at the pointe where I could see some buildings that I presume were part of the coastguard purpose of the track. At this point it had greyed over though! Never mind.
Walked back and had a rest, cooked myself some scrambled eggs with Brie (it's so cheap here you can do that!) and then went to the supermarket to buy some more chocolate, because three rabbits wasn't enough haha. You can never have enough chocolate on Easter Sunday.
I had a second attempt at a run at about 5.30pm. The fortress path was covered with water again so I ran along a main road. So many people about still! So I got more than just a run, I got an obstacle course haha. Managed a 20 minute run with a 10 minute warm down walk though. Felt great to have my heart pumping so fast!!
Now I'm packing up, cooking some dinner and watching a movie. Tomorrow morningI'm going to watch Hawthorn vs Geelong before bernadette (owner of the apartment) drives me to the station for my train to Bayeux!
Have loved St Malo but it's much busier than I anticipated! Hopefully Bayeux a bit quieter.
Love to all
Claire
