Hello everyone,
Last night we had bangers and mash for dinner - it was amazing! I didn't sleep very well.
This morning we left for a hike up o Livingstonia in the mountains at 6am. It rained as we set off and we all got soaked!
The walk was pretty steep up and slippery, and we ran into lots of local kids along the way. Some at the top even showed us some Maths work they had been working on!!
Then we got to Manchewe Falls and checked them out from some different angles. Already being wet though I didn't feel like swimming.
At this point, seven of our group caught a ute back down while ten of us continued up for another hour to Livingstonia. Here we saw a hospital, a school and then the mission. This was built on the site that David Livingstone once camped in his honour in 1903. Robert Laws lived here for 25 years and continued the mission work with David Livingstone as his inspiration. Random fact I found out from the museum inside - 20,000 slaves were shipped across Lake Malawi to Zanzibar in 1875.
Then we headed back down. Down was so hard! We are all really sore and could hardly move. I think the way down took three hours. It was steep and slippery, and at one point it absolutely poured for 15 minutes so we got saturated (including my bag and all my clothes!) not quite sure how we will dry everything.
I'm sitting in the bar now so stiff I can hardly move! It was good, but I'm not sure the second half was worth it. We feel very accomplished having done it though :)
Off to Tanzania tomorrow. Apart from being robbed I have really enjoyed Malawi!
Love to all
Claire
