Chitimba Beach

Hi everyone,

There are posts for the last two days below this one as we haven't had wifi for a little while.

Our punch party last night was good. Richard had drawn my name out of the hat for dress ups and I got to wear a sparkly skirt and a leopard print top. I looked like some sort of cave woman haha.

Rob and I didn't go to bed too late as we had an early morning this morning. We drove about five hours today with a stop on the way at a supermarket. We ran into another Acacia group travelling the same tour but in the opposite direction to us and swapped advice about which activities etc were good.

Now we are staying at Chitimba Beach. Like yesterday, there are people outside the gates and on the beach trying to flog souvenirs. The camp itself though looks really nice and we got a nice shady spot for our tent.

Due to having money stolen the other day, Rob and I had to forego the bar and chilling out to walk to the local police station. What an experience! We stuck out like sore thumbs walking along the side of the road for a kilometre, but everyone was friendly and waved. The police station was a derelict brick building in the middle of a field. As we walked in there were posters stating "protect yourself from HIV, refrain from sexually abusing your suspects". Yikes! There was a guy locked up at the back and the policeman (who wasn't in a uniform) had trouble understanding me. After trying to explain I just needed a certificate, he said he would go and find a communicator to help.

His friend Joe, the sergeant of the station, came back and filled out a police certificate for me. I had to pay a little bit but I wanted the certificate before Tanzania as I had heard it would be more difficult there. I'm glad I got it and all will be ok. While he was filling out the certificate though, they released a prisoner in the foyer so he could eat. The whole experience was so strange and a good story!

We had spent the remainder of the afternoon just chilling at the campsite. We lost power again for a while but it's back now. I'm hoping for another good night's sleep :)

Love to all

Claire
