Exploring Riu Palace

Hello all,

I'm finding I have enough to write about each day at the moment, so here I go again. We spent most of yesterday by the pool. We headed over about 9am and reserved two sun lounges before having breakfast. As tempting as the buffet items are, I’ve decided I’m strictly on my usual breakfast foods (eg cereal, toast and fruit) and usual lunch foods (eg a salad or a sandwich) or I’m going to leave here the size of a house! So cornflakes and juice it was.

I spent a fair chunk of time reading my book in one of the pool lounges. Then at 11 I went for a tour of the other Riu Island. Rob stayed behind to chill out. The rooms on the other island are more expensive as they are 5 star. We went into one of the water villas, and I actually thought it wasn't any more impressive than ours. They had a small pool on their deck, a small dining table and chairs (as they can order room service) and a walk in wardrobe. Other than that, it was exactly the same as our room. The bridge their rooms was on was very windy though, whereas the section of the ocean we have access to is pretty calm.

Then we headed onto the island itself. We saw huge schools of fish and a reef shark along the way, before seeing the pool over that side (which was pretty much the same) and the Japanese restaurant. In my usual form, I made a friend on the tour. There was a girl called Joyce from the UK who travelled her by herself. We chatted away, she was really nice. We have since run into her by the pool.

Back by the pool, at 12 I joined the aqua fitness class for the day. It was actually a proper fitness class unlike yesterday’s which was really lame. I enjoyed it! There were about 20 of us taking part I think and the music was fun.

Eventually we headed back and watched the "sunset" on our deck. We've had this weird cloud around the horizon our entire stay so far, and therefore haven't really had any proper sunsets. Hopefully we get one before we leave. We also enjoyed seeing some huge fish swimming around our ladder. We then watched some TV before heading to dinner and then the White Night party. We had a drink and had a laugh at a lady getting crazily into her dancing by herself whilst filming herself. The decorations were cool and I got my face painted with paint that lit up in the disco lights. On the way back, a bat pooed on Rob. I told him he's either going to start another pandemic, or it's good luck and North are about to have a great season!

Love to all
Claire
