Montevideo

Hey everyone!

Last night we went and watched the sunset at the 'beach' (rocks and dirty water near the old port area!). Daryl was kind enough to buy us wine, bread, ham and cheese which was yum! The sunset was really pretty, then we walked to a restaurant afterwards.

I shared a table with Maria, Danton and Jared. Danton and Jared are brothers from Sydney. The four of us had a great dinner sharing paella and sangria. It was delicious! Mum, took a photo just for you.

This morning Maria went for a run. I had good intentions to but stayed in bed - oops! Another time. We got at 10.30am bus to Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay. It was founded in 1724 and has a population of 1.4 million people!

We then got a mini bus to our hotel, it was so full that we had to put bags in the aisle and were so squashed!! We arrived at our hotel and it is by far the best hotel of the holiday so far. I feel like we are staying at Crown in Melbourne almost. Sooooo nice!

We went on a quick orientation walk and then Maria, Danton, Jared and I set off to see the old town. On the way we stopped at a cool little gluten free cafe where Jared picked up some snacks (he's coeliac). Then we walked into town which took about 45 minutes. I really like it here! It reminds me a little of an Australian city, not quite sure why though. We saw some nice squares and pretty buildings. We walked all the way until we could see the pier. Then I had an ice cream and a quiche.

We caught a taxi back to the hotel. Tonight we are having a late dinner (the restaurants close between 5 and 9pm here - siesta!), buying alcohol for pre drinks and then going on a pub crawl between 11pm and 3am

Really enjoying Montevideo and can't wait for bike riding and soccer tomorrow!

Love to all
Claire
