Estancia La Sirena

Hey everyone!

Here is a few days worth of blog due to us having had no wifi.

Sunday 15/2 7.51pm
This morning I did something I haven't done all holiday - I got up and exercised! Maria and I got up and went for a run. We did about 3-4km in 25-30 minutes. I didn't stop running the whole time and really surprised myself!!

We had breakfast and a shower and then got a bus at 9am for four hours to the north west of Uruguay to a ranch/estancia called La Sirena near a town called Mercedes. It is so beautiful here, very relaxing and peaceful.

We had some soup for lunch and then chilled out a bit, walking around, playing on the tyre swing and had a lie down. Then we all went for a walk to the local river which was about forty minutes each way. We sat down there and some of the others went fishing, Anne says to say she was a great fisherman as she caught 3+ fish!!

Now we are relaxing back at the rooms. I had a shower and found a huge spider in our bathroom which I promptly squashed with my thong, feeling very Aussie!

Tuesday 17/2 9.24am
The night before last we enjoyed amazing chorizo rolls for dinner and then went to a bonfire. You could see the stars so clearly in the sky. I found the saucepan but couldn't find the southern cross!! Saw a creepy snake on the way back to the room.

Then yesterday morning, Maria, Molly, Christopher and I all got  up to go for a run. It was lots harder than the previous day because my muscles really hurt and the road we ran was quite hilly. But nevertheless I ran thirty minutes! The farmer's dog ran the whole way with us.

Then we had breakfast (an omelette and some bread) and had some chill out time. We mostly sat around and chilled out. At 11am we went and milked the cows with the farmer which I hadn't done since I was 3 at kinder! Then we helped the farmer's wife make bread, each of us got to shape a piece how we liked (I made mine 'C' for Claire). We had more chill out time which I spent napping for an hour and a half. Those of you who know me well know that at home I never stop. I'm always crazy busy, rushing from place to place doing things. So this nap was wonnnnnnderful!!!

At 4.30pm the farmer started taking us on group horse rides. It was very leisurely and slow and I liked it lots better than the first horse ride because the horses were well looked after and the farmer helped us to know what to do.

Spent the remainder of the afternoon having a quick dip in the pool then playing a game with Danton, Jared, Hayley, Emma, Anne, Molly and Maria that Danton introduced us to called 'Same Page'. You had to think of a word, tell the group which letter it started with and them the group would ask you a question. So for instance say my word was 'bungalow' and I told them it started with 'B' one of them might ask 'can you play with it?'. At this point I have to think of the answer they're thinking of and so for instance say 'no it's not a ball'. If you can't think of the word and two or more of the others can they say 'same page' and after five seconds if you still don't know it you have to let them know the next letter. Eventually you either reveal all the letters or they guess the word. It was heaps of fun and we learned a lot about what lots of the others knew. I'm definitely going to use that one in the classroom when we have spare time!!!

We had dinner which was yummy chicken and potatoes and then peaches for dessert. After dinner the Aussies and Feli, Anne and Elisabeth played 'King's Cup' which is a drinking game that I haven't played since schoolies. It's so much fun!! Had forgotten how much.

Got to bed at 1am and got up about 8.30am. We are leaving fairly soon. I've loved it here. It's so relaxing and beautiful!! Uruguay has been amazing and a lovely unexpected surprise :)

Tuesday 17/2 4.34pm
Today we have driven across the border to Argentina. Much quicker than the other week!! We had lunch at a steak restaurant and now are sitting in a truckstop waiting for our 16 hour overnight bus to Iguassu, Brazil!! Blog again in two days.

Love to all
Claire
