Merhaba/hello from Istanbul!
We got up at 4.30am today and went to Munich airport. Our flight ran smoothly and on time and we got to Ataturk airport. We had no idea how to work the ticket machines or what train or tram to get, but a man helped us and took us to our hotel. We didn't really want him to know where we were staying just in case he wasn't genuine but it's so hard to shake people here. They want to sell you something, they follow you til you buy it. But he bought us water and helped us find our hotel then didn't ask for any money or anything, just shook our hands. So I think he was genuine and I have no idea how we would have found our way otherwise!!!
So we put our things in our room which is nice and spacious and then set out to the grand bazaar. Dear god I am actually terrified of the grand bazaar. Especially because we are two women people just constantly try to sell you stuff and talk to you and follow you. Argh! I also hate haggling. I bought a gorgeous bracelet and mum bought a carpet. I don't think we have to go back though because I am literally terrified of all the people everywhere following you!!!
We went and looked at the Blue Mosque which is just gorgeous! The tiles and details on the roof are incredible. We just sat for a while and admired the ceiling! Then we had dinner at an ottoman restaurant which was yummy and booked a Bosporus cruise and bus tour for Monday.
The weather was great today beautiful and sunny!!
Love from Istanbul,
Claire xoxo
