Magic Morning & California Adventure

Hello everyone,

I ended up with about five hours of sleep last night. I’m feeling surprisingly good considering, and we will get a normal amount tonight.

We were up early as today was the Magic Morning we were eligible for with our three day ticket. This meant that we could enter Disneyland at 7am instead of 8am. So we went in early, and headed straight for Fantasyland as none of the old school original story rides have fastpass.

We had a lot of success. We got a photo in front of the castle with barely anyone in it, then went on Peter Pan’s Flight first. This is one of the original rides from the 50s, which always makes me think those rides are more special as Walt Disney was involved in their design himself. It was beautiful, just as I remembered.

Then we went on Alice in Wonderland, Snow White and the Dumbo ride. It was a successful hour!

After this, we headed to the other park - Disney’s California Adventure. My other advice if you come here is to spend the bit extra and get a park hopper 3 day ticket. You’ll get a Magic Morning, and you can bounce back and forth between parks as much as you please. For today it was a huge advantage for us, as I had read that when a park has Magic Morning, it tends to be the busier park all day because of the people on single park tickets being stuck in there unable to swap parks after the 7am entry.

We headed straight for the Incredicoaster, a rebranded version of our family favourite from 2005, California Screamin’. We went on twice in 15 minutes, and felt old afterwards. We both felt quite light headed from all the loops and drops. It was fun, but we decided to move on and maybe go on again later.

Next we went to the Radiator Springs Racers, which is a ‘Cars’ movie themed car race, before Monsters Inc and Soarin’ Around the World. Soarin’ is so beautiful, but I still maintain that Soarin’ Over California that we rode in 2005 was better, because it was unique to the area. They’ve made it a worldly one now because of the opening of more international Disney parks. You fly over lots of different landmarks around the world now.

I had improved at this point, but poor Rob wasn’t feeling very well. Soarin’ helped as it was slow, and then we went on The Little Mermaid ride which was good too. We got stuck on it for a while due to a small breakdown, but it was in the part where Sebastian was singing ‘Under The Sea’ on loop, so we had fun singing and dancing along while we waited (this is how I could tell Rob was feeling a little better!).

We headed around the pier and went on a jellyfish ride before competing against each other at the ‘Toy Story’ Midway Mania arcade games ride. Rob won!

Afterwards, we enjoyed a churro and had a giggle that the stall was named ‘Señor Buzz’ after Spanish mode Buzz in ‘Toy Story 4’

Next up was the Ferris wheel by the water. Previously, I’ve been in the scary swinging carriages on this one. But Rob still wasn’t feeling well, and the queue for non swinging cabins was shorter, so we went in one of those instead. The views were lovely. Up here though, I could see how high our next ride was.

We headed to the Guardians of the Galaxy ride. This was formerly known as the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, AKA the ride I cried in the queue of when I was 12! It was closed when I came here in 2017 being changed to the new version, so I hadn’t been on since I was terrified in 2005. I got in my own head and started scaring myself as we got there. I hate drop rides, but I also hate missing out. I convinced myself it was just going to be one drop like it was in 2005. Queueing up, a kid near us started to freak out and it took me right back to how I felt all those years ago - I started to feel really scared. Anyway, I got on the ride and assured myself “just one drop”.... I was wrong. Very wrong. We were shot up, then down, up down up down. I screamed so much I think I deafened the people in front of us, and Rob and I both agreed we didn’t like it and we were glad when it was over!! To cap it off too, the guy in front of me's hand was in my face in the ride photo, so I couldn't even prove I had been on it if I tried!

Then we had a complete change of theme and went to the Animation Academy, where we learnt how to draw Tigger. I then bought a Disney Christmas shirt in the shop using some of the money Nan and Pa gave me for Christmas.

Afterwards, we watched a band play for a while and then went on the Grizzly River Rapids ride. We were both nervous here, as we both admitted at the same time in the queue that it was the first time we had been on such a ride since people died on the one at Dreamworld. Once we were up the conveyor belt though, our nerves eased and we had fun. We got a bit wet, but the sun was out by then!

We went back on Soarin’ again, and then did two more drawing workshops learning how to draw Pluto and Forky. We loved those, it was a great way to wind down and our drawings turned out really well!

At this point, we were feeling very tired so we decided to head back to the hotel for a rest. We stayed there for about two hours and Rob had a nap. Then we headed back refreshed to California Adventure. The lights were beautiful! I went back on the Incredicoaster as I had reserved a fastpass before we left, and then we wandered around and watched some Christmas acts.

Our last stop for the day was the 'World of Colour' show in the California Adventure park. Last time I came here, it was wonderful. Today it was Christmas themed so different to the usual show and it was wonderful too. Full of Christmas carols, fountains that looked like Christmas trees, Christmas scenes and amazing lights all over the park on all the rides. Afterwards, we watched the Disneyland fireworks on our way out. We are hoping to attend them tomorrow, but it's meant to rain tomorrow night so they may not run. Cross your fingers!!

Love to all
