Arrived Mykonos

Hi all!!

Have had a wonderful day!

Firstly I set my alarm for 5am. Was wondering if jet lag would mean I wouldn't want to get up. But jet lag was on my side it seemed! I woke wide awake at 4.55am. We met in the lobby at 5.30 and got a bus to Piraeus, the port in Athens. Here I bought a yummy pastry and a donut for brekky (so healthy!!) and then we boarded our ferry. I was picturing a tiny crappy boat, but instead we were on a ginormous ferry!!

Our journey took about 6 hours, from 7.30 to 1.30. Some of the others passed the time by sleeping but I listened to my iPod and sat at the back deck with Charlie. We watched the world literally sail by and chatted. Was lovely sitting in the sun!! I got to know quite a few of the others on the boat too. All but 3 are Aussies, and lots from Melbourne!!

We got to Mykonos and it took forever to find our cases from the mountain of baggage of all the passengers! We eventually found ours and boarded our bus. Mykonos is just as I pictured it. White houses with blue doors and window frames! Apparently to build any building here you have to abide by those colours. White is to keep cool in summer and blue represents the sky or the heavens. It's so funny seeing a little Vodafone store in that type of building!!

We got to our hotel. The owner is scary and randomly hurls abuse at his staff but luckily not at us haha. My room is really spacious and lovely. I am at the base of a rocky hill though, so in the corner I literally have a boulder next to my bed! And one in my bathroom! So if I don't post tmro I've been squashed in my sleep. At the other three places Christina and I are going to share to save money. But here we had already booked separate rooms anyway.

We just went to the beach. They don't call it paradise beach for no reason! So so beautiful. I learned from my Cambodian mistakes and took lots of water and a hat. Kelsie and I bought 2 for 1 cocktails and us, Caitlyn and Keira lay on the beach. We then swam for a little bit to a sand bank type thing. There were sea urchins though so we had to be careful! We all had a good laugh because Adam tried to help me down and I epically failed and instead fell off the sand back. Smooth Claire!

We are about to drive to town for an orientation walk, dinner and a pub crawl. I'll be in late (or early depending which way you look at it!!) tonight so I'm writing now.

Lots more info and pictures of Mykonos tmro. Having a chill day in town and at the beach.

Love to all

Tuesday 27th May - 8.58am
After I wrote last night we had a group meeting at the bar by the beach. We each got a couple of cold drinks and then we all set off on the bus into town. Firstly we walked to a restaurant called 'Opa' where Rachel, Caitlin, Kirra and I shared 2 appetiser platters that were huge!! We had so much delicious Greek food including moussaka, feta, different dips with pita etc etc. It was delicious! We also shared a bottle of wine.

Afterwards, Tom (who is our guide who I think I am yet to mention. Sorry!! He's American and really lovely.) took us on an orientation walk of Mykonos. We saw the famous windmills and walked around town. It reminded me a little of the isle of Capri, with its small, winding and narrow streets.

Then we went on a bit of a bar crawl. We went to 2 bars and then a nightclub. I felt really tired at the 2nd bar but pushed through and kept going, and am so glad I did!! Because in the end I had lots of fun. Danced heaps at the club and even ended up dancing on the bar with Kelsie and Christina!! Haha. Was lots of fun like when I danced on stage in Chiang Mai with Laura, Jo and the lady boys.

Ended up getting a taxi to the hotel with James, Adam and Kirra at 2am.

Today Kirra, Caitlin, Kelsie and I are going shopping in town and then chilling out at the beach :)

Love to all
Claire
