Today I'm writing from a cafe where Laura, me, James, Tom and Emma are having a cold drink before dinner.
The five of us boarded a bus for about ten minutes, and picked up six Chinese tourists along the way. We trekked first of all through farmland. The scenery was amazing! Hopefully I can put the photos up tomorrow, they are beautiful!!
We crossed rivers, climbed over fences and then started on up the hill. The hill went for a couple of hours. Oh my god. It was so hot!!! I've never sweated so much in my life!! But the views were well worth it! We ended up in dense jungle with so many bugs everywhere! Eventually we got to a waterfall. The cool water was a great relief. Laura had a quick swim but it was freezing so I just out my legs in. Our guides cooked us lunch here by starting a small fire and making kebabs and fried rice. So good!!!
We headed back and the way back was downhill, but still hot and really tiring. Emma had felt quite sick along the way, but felt better on the way back luckily.
We walked to the Nam Song River and crossed, then got into our kayaks. We kayaked for about an hour down the river, going through rapids and taking in the amazing scenery. It was so quiet and peaceful, a stark contrast to tubing in days gone by. So many tourists were dying from drunken accidents etc that the government shut down most of the bars and all the swings and slides. I quite liked how peaceful it was! There were so many rocks that we hit and got stuck on that I would imagine you'd get hurt tubing even if you were sober. Not on my bucket list!!!
Tonight we are going out for local cuisine for dinner. Travelling to Luang Prabang tomorrow, keep your fingers crossed the wifi will be better! I am looking forward to showing you all how beautiful today was.
By the way, my mission to not get burnt the whole trip failed today. Our new sunscreen is crap but there's nothing I can do. I put it on four times today, but we were out in the sun so much that it was inevitable. It's not too bad, just some of my arms and my back. I'm going to have a fabulous racer back singlet tan. Can't wait - not :(. Hopefully that's the last of it!!
Love to all
Claire and Laura
