Last night in Seoul

Hello everyone for the final time in South Korea!

After I wrote last night, we headed off to the Gyeongui Line Park again. We wandered a little and then chose a rooftop bar which was very open and had a beautiful view. We each had a yummy Korean honey beer. I have actually really enjoyed the beer here.

Then we went back to the BBQ restaurant we ate at on Wednesday and enjoyed another delicious meal. The man recognised us and we knew what to do this time in terms of sides etc.

Afterwards, I left Dad sitting on a bench and I did a bit of shopping. The silver lining of our private DMZ tour being cancelled was that I had a little wriggle room in my budget. I bought a skirt for work and a pair of earrings. Other than those, I didn't see anything I liked. The fashions here are very "interesting". They suit the quirkiness of Korea, but not me!

We had a bit of a walk around and then enjoyed our third and final ice cream of the trip at 'Molly's Pops'. The same lovely lady had served us every time, and when we told her we were going home the next day she gave us each a badge. She said the shop is named after her niece. She was very smiley and kind.

Now we are at Incheon Airport ready to head home via a six hour layover in Kuala Lumpur. We are hoping that we might be able to leave the airport to kill a couple of hours because otherwise that's a very long time!

I have really enjoyed Seoul, even more than I thought I would. I love unexpected places, I love exploring places I don't know much about. Before I came here all I knew about South Korea was 'Gangnam Style' and that they had a mean northern neighbour. I leave here having a real appreciation for this country, its delicious food, friendly people, urban spaces full of parks. I also feel now that I have a pretty good understanding of the Korean War. This is definitely another place to add to your list, and I think it will be an up and comer soon for Australians with Jetstar flying direct here from Queensland as of December. I would personally like to return one day and check out Busan, the war cemetery and Jeju Island (and the JSA - but at least we saw some of the DMZ!).

Thank you as always for reading along. My next trip is with Rob in December to the USA and the Caribbean. Can't wait!!

Love to all
Claire
